Introduction

The JS7 - File Watching is used to automatically start the a workflow when the file arrived arrives in the source a directory. The agents JS7 Agents on any platform can continuously watch the directory for the incoming files and add an order for a particular each file.

Workflow

The jdFileWatchingForkTouch workflow includes a shell job that creates files for automated execution of the jdFileWatchingFork workflow.

  • The jdFileWatchingForkTouch workflow creates the files,
  • File Watching automatically picks up the files and
  • starts the jdFileWatchingFork workflow by adding one order for each file created.

To execute the workflow from the folder 08_FileWatching follow the steps described below

  1. Click the folder 08_FileWatching and folder and expand the jdFileWatchingForkTouch workflow.




  2. Click the workflow action menu of the workflow and use the Add Order menu item from the drop-down menu to add an order to the workflow.



  3. When clicking Add Order a popup window will appear.
  4. You can add an Order ID or leave the Order ID value empty, it will then use a default Order ID. Click the Submit button.
  5. With the Modify Variable link, you can edit the value of variables assigned to the workflow.



  6. Click the Modify Variable link and from the drop-down menu select the name of the variable that you want to modify. In the screenshot shown below screenshot the variable , the num_of_files is  variable has been selected and with the default value is 5 it will create the 5 sample file 5. You can modify this value to create 1 to 10 files in the source directory. The variable is declared with the workflow definition, you can modify its value and click the Submit button to add the order to the workflow.




  7. To check the status of the order click the name of the workflow to make the Order History panel appear.




  8. From the Order History panel, you can verify if the order is successful and  hasfinished. Click the Order ID to see the log output created by jobs executed for this order.



  9. A log window will open and the order log will be displayed. The order log contains the output of all jobs executed by the order.
  10. You can download the log file by clicking the Download button from in the upper right-hand corner of the log view window. Also, you can expand and collapse all the individual job output using the chevron icons from in the upper left upper -hand corner of the log view window.
